And here is what we found in the fist panel we stripped..

I have a feeling many surprises will come our way.
As best I can tell this car was done with por15, it's a mess to strip, looks like por15, acts like por 15, and sands like it.
why on earth a shop would put it on a whole car is beyond me. But I think that's what's underneath the primer..

I had best luck stripping POR15 with an aggressive wire wheel. It doesn't sand well.

Hey them rivets look like my work from back in 81', better than metal tape I guess.... Chad are you taking over from where the owner left off?

NOOO!!!

I'm starting over!!

So far doors, fenders, and hood have been stripped.

Cory took off the door bottoms they put on and also took off the fender patch.. What a mess.

Starting from scratch, stripping it all down, blasting the jambs and rust and working our way back up.

Feel sorry for the guy considering he's paid a fair amount go get this work done. I went to the last shop it was at and it looked fairly respectable, but the owner seemed burndt out.

Wow, look at that rust under the patch area!! That might have lasted till the first time it got wet LOL!!! On a bright note the doorshell frames don't look to bad other than the tears on the flange. Chad, this car is very lucky to find you! Hope the owner gets his money back from the hack that did the previous work-it all needs to be undone....

No.. sounds like it's all at a loss. Definitely a shame.. I'm scared to see what the rest of the car is going to be like..
I grabbed the wheel well and ripped a chunk out. So we all know what that means.

Was hoping to have this blasted and primed by now, but the guy that does my blasting just lost his mother.. I told him to call me when he's ready.. That has to be really hard to deal with. The car can wait.

How many times I have seen this same scenario. The car looks decent until you start stripping the paint. To me this is a good argument for always stripping to bare metal on these older cars.

I don't know how you couldn't, unless you have documented proof of what has been done.. That's why i take so many pics. At least if a guy can't finish his project, he can show all of the pictures to the next guy, and that guy can then show to his shop of choice. I know i would be more comfortable going over someone else's work if I had pictures from every step of the way.. Or depending on the pics. less comfortable.. lol..

These types of the customers are the ones that will be with you forever. they've been screwed before, been told some kinda sale to get their car done and they get fed up with it. when they find someone that will straight shoot the job with them and be honest...they love it. The mustang i have in the shop now is that way. Customer spent a fortune 10 year ago to have his car done...now it is getting completely re-done again....and even though he is going to have probably triple the amount of money into it this go around...he is completely happy because he KNOWS its getting done right this time, and he can see the car every step of the way.

I just hate that they've had to spend alot of money on shoddy work in the first place.

Yep. A friend of mine had a 57 chevy at three different places for months at a time only to end up moving one last time to someone that knew what they were doing. The guy stripped the car and saved all the bondo - 13 pounds worth - to show him. My friend has spent 3 times what the car is worth getting it done.

Keep in mind that the previous shop said this car was ready for paint after a little sanding.

The owner must be sick after seeing this, makes me want to puke thinking somebody got paid for that work.

If I were the owner, I'd be relieved. Finding it now rather than three or four years after you get the car back. $50,000 and my paint is bubbling! That would make me sick.

That's true, could you imagine if they put all the work into painting it.. wow. that would have been a mess, Although it's bad enough I don't think it would have made it that long..

ANY time an owner finds out he's been had it's difficult and can make you sick. I bought a '78 Suburban out in Reno years ago it was my first 4x4. We traded-in a little Corolla my wife and I bought new. Long story short all the bondo that had been used just like the Buick here started falling out of the rust, took 6 months to 1 year. I was pretty sick about it back then...

How did my work make it all the way to Michigan loL ;) .. That looks like stuff around here.. Must be more normal than I want to believe
