What would work best to remove that black gooey stuff for the windshield and window trim pieces?

It's easy, pull some of it up then use that to stick and pull the rest up, eventually you end up with a big ball of it in your hand if that makes any sense.

It's not sticky enough. It looks about 24 years old. Dry. Would mineral spirits work?

Might try a small amount of heat to soften it first. If that doesn't work try a wood chisel (be careful not to damage the metal or your hands) and then lacquer thinner to remove the residue.
