Which pads to use

D

I've sanded my clear to 1500. I got the meguiars DA polisher g110v2 for Christmas. I'm planning on using meguiars 105 and 205 and am trying to figure out which pads to use. It seems like a lot of people use wool. Is that the best option for both the 105 and 205 on neither? would I be better go with a kit like this (http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Ultr...PA/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1325174761&sr=8-10) with foam pads? This is my first time doing and buffing ( as was my first time with body work and paint). There seems to be many different combinations of products people use so I don't know what would really be best for me starting off.
Thanks for any help

The Mequiars maroon pads are the "cutting" pads, yellow are the "buffing" pads and black are the "polishing" pads. Wool is for rotary use only. Check out ADS (Auto Detailing Solutions) for good prices and really great service. Also checkout MOL (Mequiars on Line) forums and Autogeek forums, lots and lots of info there.

So for the 105 I would want to use the maroon pads and for 205 use the black pads? It seems like the DA is used mainly for restoring paint or applying wax. Will it work okay for first time cut and buff on new paint? probably just work slower but that's okay because I do not want to burn through.

I very seldom use the black pads for paint correction, if you are dealing with very soft paint you may need the polishing pad. I usually use the yellow for the majority of the "polishing" step, m205 will usually finish very well with the yellow pad, but again it depends on the hardness of the paint you are working on. As you are using a DA you will be "correcting" the paint more than "cutting", (for lack of a better word) the paint that you would do with a rotary buffer and a wool or foam pad. A lot of factors come into play, I would suggest you try to read as much as possable b4 spending too much on products.

even though i know theres other products out there, i got hooked on megs 105 and 205. i use a pc 7424. i made mistakes along the way and wasted a lot of product, but ended up sticking with CCS orange pads. the one thing i had to do is keep my work area small, about 24" by 24". sometimes 2 passes with the 105. inoticed that when my garage is warm and the humidity is low, the 105 dries and dusts up rather quick. i give the surface area i am working on a shot of water from a spray bottle and work it some more. it's pretty important to keep the pads clean. once the pores fill up with product, they dont have much action. for the 205, its an orange pad, too, followed by 205 with a blue pad.
