Where should we start?

If everyone adds some info here this can be a a resource for many DIY's. Where to start is the question.

I found these today while searching for info on chip repair. How about someone doing some short videos on using SPI products like set up and spraying technique. Maybe a how to set up your paint gun video. There are several videos in this series and can be found underneath the main video.

Do we have any gun settings sticky post in here?

I remember this was in the old spi forum and I think it was very good info for someone just starting out, a good reference point as far as adjustments and where to start.

Bob,
I would suggest we start out with the one thing most newbies never think about - air supply and filtration.
Giving serious thought to the cost of a good compressor capable of running all the tools, sandblast equipment and paint guns needs to be addressed first in my opinion. Too many times the same question is asked, Will my compressor handle this gun?
With this in mind a serious discussion on shop space and proper set up, paint booth design and location, etc. could ensue. Obviously we cannot all afford the "perfect shop" but understanding what the basic needs are for what we are trying to accomplish can help bring reality to the table.
My thinking would be to start from the premise of building a shop to accommodate body work followed by painting. We could assume that media blasting other than small parts will be done through an outside source if that is the chosen means of stripping old paint.

Those are some excellent points to be addressed. If I could throw in a few more in case anyone has anything to add. Any articles on buffing/polishing as well as which buffers to use. Air or electric? Their are more if anyone can add to the list and then people with saved articles or experience could write up a few articles

Are you talking about a separate thread for each topic? I would start with more descriptive thread titles, it makes searching for info better.

Jorge,

I started a thread with Barry's 2002 Paint gun Adjusting recommendations. It's here in the Tech Tips section.

Yes, I think each topic should be a separate thread, maybe even more specific than usual. A thread on Compressors could cover just that, with another discussing Filters and a third Dryers. The Dryers thread could be broken down further, with a thread on Desiccant Dryers and another on Air Chillers. Compressor Upgrades might be helpful for those who already have a compressor but it isn't big enough. Once you have a compressor, how about plumbing? A thread on Copper Plumbing, Black Pipe, Plastic and Aluminum (Garage Pak?). A thread on Masking would be good but one on Masking Tape and another on Masking Paper and a third on Masking Plastic might be more useful. I don't have the expertise but I can start the threads if you want.

Might I suggest maybe a page with links to articles that already address these items? Kind of a resource/information type section with specific titles.
If you just start threads you will get a bunch of opinions with likes and dislikes where a resource page with links would remain clean, uncluttered and easy to find the information you are seeking.

Sounds like a great idea -- and make it a sticky so it stays at the top of the Tech Tips page. Any volunteers?
