what to clean with?

trying to do my first restore so i am gonna have a lot of questions for you experienced guys.

tonight i pulled the front and rear windshields and scraped all the gunk off the best i could with a plastic putty knife and got to thinking "what kind of solvent is safe to use to get all this stuff off"? what can i use to wipe off grease residue around door hinges, oil or grease in the engine bay, undercoating , ect that will not come back and haunt me later?

what do you guys like to use to refinish the engine bay? epoxy?

I use purple power from lowes and a pressure washer for my initial degreasing.

http://www.gunk.com/products/DET_EB1.ASP works good as a first step for engine compartments and underbody, follow that with a pressure washer and the majority of the oils and grease will be gone.
