What primer did basecoat paint chips use?

I just called to have some red (all three) paint chips sent out to me.

What color primer was used for those? From what I understand, I can tune the color/depth of the red by using black, grey or white primer.

Thanks,
Sal

More than likely they were sprayed on white photo paper.

For the fine tuning you mention, I'll let someone with more experience and better with words chime in. Not sure you'd want to shoot the bright red on black primer, kinda defeats the purpose and more than likely you'd incur in unnecessary expense.

Gray or white will work but the majority of the people use gray, exception on the white is the dark red, gray is best.

If your primer is affecting your color, you're not putting enough paint on.
And that will make it impossible to match in the future.

It does not make a better choice as a lot of people do use the red epoxy under all the reds and does make for better coverage.
Majority of the shops I would guess from calls use the gray because that's the most popular color primer.

Every batch we make my test is over red, black and blue I want to see 95% coverage with one coat.
