Question please:
I am a Louisiana hobbyist getting ready to first time paint a 72 Corvette, Bryar Blue, and 68 Corvette, Cordovan Maroon, completed all primer sealer, 2K, blocking, more primer sealer, and used all SPI coatings.
Looking for a good base and plan to use SPI Universal Clear over that. I would buy SPI base in a heartbeat, but I want OEM color match.
Talked with PPG and they say they can do Shopline with an exact color match for $300/gal. DBC is 1200/gal with an approx color match.
Talked with Capital Paint, Tx, and they can do Diamont with an exact color match for 8 to $900/gal w/reducer.
2 different PPG reps, one an area mgr tell me Shopline is good, will work, good coverage and good color and good economical choice for an old Corvette that will likely spend most of its time in a garage.
However, I read here (great forum, the best paint forum IMHO, thanks!) that to steer clear of Shopline. Is Shopline now better? Other suggestions? Advice? I am thinking Diamont is the best way to go, Thoughts?
