Waxing and car cover question

I sprayed my '66 Mustang back on the first week of September, base, clear, wet sanded and three more coats of clear. Wet sanded starting with 400 and worked my way up to 2000 then buffed. Other than a few sanding scratches I have not caught yet, it turned out absolutely stunning!
Since it is a long term garage project I bought a car cover to protect the finish.
How long to wait before I can wax the new paint, and when will it be safe to use the car cover?
Hope you say now, since I installed it Saturday!

The car cover must be breathable or paint will bubble, in other words, NOT waterproof.

Do not wax the car until it has the equivalent of three months in the sun to be totally safe, setting inside does not cure paint.

However, you can use something like spray-in-shine or detail spray, aka show glazes too protect the paint from dust scratches as any kind of glaze is safe as it breaths.

Thanks Barry! It is a breathable cover made of Kimberly-Clark material that is full of holes. I'll look into those two protectants and pick one up.
Wow, three months in the sun? I guess pushing out on the weekends will take me about three years before I can wax it! LOL!! I'll start pushing it out on days I'm home and if there is no rain.

there is no need to wax it. something like mothers canuba is all you need. do not fall victim to all the snake oil sealer waxes out there.

What we do, if we take one of the cars out for a weekend, it takes me 5 minutes to spray down car with spray detailer (glaze) and wipe off, that makes the bugs and bird do-do wash of real easy and not hurting the paint.

my favorite car cover is 2 old bed sheets. no cover will keep dust off . if you have to store all winter get yourself a car bag. use to be called omnibag i believe. you clean the car roll it in and seal it up. my only concern was gas fumes trapped inside. i would drain and dry the tank first .

I think wax was more beneficial back when all we had was lacquer and enamel. That stuff needed extra protection.
I have often said I would rather paint a car than wax it, exaggeration, yes, but I just don't care for doing it (waxing).
