Vespa project

Well it runs! But not great. Can’t put a small phone video in the post!
Depending on how long the carb was sitting with gas in it, carb "may" need a complete tear down and ultra sonic clean. The low speed/pilot jets/portion of the carb are often the issue however every hole, port, etc need to be cleaned to its original orifice size

I did a complete tear down of the whole fuel system starting with the fuel tank. It was nasty with gunk and some rust. The fuel valve was packed solid and the vent/reserve tubes along with the strainer screen were gone. Had to make a special wrench to remove the valve that has a 32mm nut on the inside bottom of the tank. Tank is done, tested and a new fuel tap installed, new fuel line.
I ordered a rebuild kit for the carburetor, took it all apart, cleaned every orifice and put it back together. But it is possible there could be a tiny speck still stuck someplace? That ultrasonic cleaning would have been better, don't have that yet :(.
From what little bits I'm learning about these engines I think it may be sucking air. These 2-strokes are different in that the crankcase is the intake.
They can suck air from the head to cylinder seal, this is not great. Can suck from the cylinder base, I know that gasket is shot. Also there are 2 seals on the crankshaft that can be suspects. Couple other places are the carb air box to crankcase and carb to air box.
One of the reasons I think it's sucking air is it won't run unless the choke is pulled. I was told to spray flammable at the suspect areas and see if the idol raises.
But it was good to see it run even if not good. The best thing is to is a complete rebuild of the engine which I will eventually do.

If it was mine….it would be the hardest to access, which is likely to be the crank seals.
Hopefully it won’t be problematic
