using epoxy only

I have a few questions for those of you who use epoxy only as a surfacer, and sealer. No 2k.

I wanted to try and use epoxy only on some inner doors, interior pieces and jams as a test to see if its something I would try in the future.

My question is: if I were to use it on exterior panels and finished finial blocking with 320 and wanted to proceed with another coat and wet sand with 600 before sealer and base, how are you applying the final (primer) coat to cover the said 320 scratch with no orange peel?

I can spray it with very little peel with out reducing the primer, but is not sutible for texture for wet sanding with 600 due to the fact that I would have to knock down the peel.

Are you guys just reducing it?

Thanks .

If you want to go with one more coat after sanding with 320 and then sand with 600, I'd say that it would be advisable to reduce a little. Maybe 10%. Much more and you'll be sanding through all over the place. Did you intend to spray a sealer coat before base, or did you want to base over the 600 scratches?

Step down your grits, that final prime with unreduced or reduced epoxy can be cut with 320, the guidecoated and resanded with 600. There is absolutely no reason to spray primer for every grit of sanding.

I did a few test panels and 2 reduced coats fill the 320 great, with a reduction of about 25%

Thanks

Im not sealing between grits if thats what you were thinking, I just meant that I always seal even if my final primer is epoxy already.

Thanks for your replies.
