Upholstery DIY?

My 34 needs one last step before it is finished: interior. Currently it has 2 tone gray leather bucket seats out of a trailblazer. I need to do the rumble seat, door panels, headliner, etc.. The big question: should I attempt to learn how to do this myself like the rest of the car? If so, does anyone know of a good forum or tutorial on the net that would be helpful?

My old man did it all. I learned a lot from that old greaser. Anyway, just like anything else you need to start with the right tools. Your run of the mill, Suzy homemaker machine, is not going to do the job. Find an industrial machine. Your sheers will need to be as sharp as a razor. And it is going to take some practice. The margin for error is pretty high. Material cost a lot of money and making a mistake could cost you $$$$. But when you find a forum, and or video's on the subject start slowly. What I learned is, it is just as rewarding to stitch your own interior as it is to paint your own car.

Enjoy,
Dub

I would check for a local upholstery guy in your area. I have one here and he is more than helpful with information and supplies. He sells me quality vinyl and foam for just a hair over his costs and that saves a bunch of money over the fabric stores. After a few trips there and talking about the cars I am working on he gave me a tour of his shop and a look at the projects he was working on. Very informative and he also said if I ever get in a spot just give him a call.

buy scrap to practice with. most shops will have a trunk full to throw away.
dan on the hr.com upholstery forum is a real nice guy , the rest of the site sucks.

Trunk floor? More like shop floor around here. LOL. Atleast the run-of-the-mill shops. Only 2-3 high end upholstery shops around here that get all the nice work, including mine. Nice shops.

I will have to check out HR.com a little more. I'm a member there, but I haven't found much use for the site so far. SPI, and metal meet, have gotten me to this point.
