We have been looking to hire another person to work in manufacturing for the last six months.
We are very picky about the type of person we hire, but we have a new guy starting today, and im excited.
This guy has owned two businesses in the last 30 years
And will become part of the family real quick.

It's been a struggle to keep up as im spending the majority of my time working over there, and you may have noticed the tech line has suffered a little bit because of this, im sorry.

Overall we have done a pretty good job of keeping up but not to our usual standards.

The epoxy status we have plenty of black and another tote ready to fill once a filling machine gets available.
Gray and white needs blending time once a machine comes available and may be able to sneak it in today or tomorrow.

Be assured we are doing everything possible to better service you.

thanks barry. yes i have been waiting on the white. i have enough to last maybe another week or so.

It has been done trying to get a fresh blend and time on the filling machine.
Today we made uv, 2 -1200 qts of activators, so 600 got kicked to the side again.
Im hoping to start at 5 in the morning tomorrow.
They were filling red oxide epoxy now as they gave me a machine to use.
Tough to keep up.

Ok sounds good. I have enough for another week and a half or so. When i start to run low on stuff and its not avail then i start to get nervous. Ill check on it when i do the next order.

we just got a monster order from Canada and have to make every color of epoxy and 2K sealers and about a 100 gallons short of two different clears, i thought we were in good shape of a few weeks or month on some colors, wrong.
so my adpro is kicked to the side as we must prioritize and we only have one filling machine that does nothing but activators and 600 and I thik we have close to 3600 quarts of activators we also have to make.
going to be a long weekend and first part of next week to get all this done.

This all comes as a surprise to me. I've never tried to order anything from SPI and been told there isn't any. Of these products, are there any of which I should make sure to keep an extra backup?:

3100-1 Speed Clear
3101-4 Fast Activator
3102-4 Medium Activator
4000-1 Universal Clear
4001-4 Medium
4003-4 Slow
4004-4 Very Slow
5000-1 Euro Clear
5001-4 Fast Activator
5002-4 Medium Activator
5003-4 Slow Activator
6600-1 White Epoxy
6620-1 Black Epoxy
6700-1 Epoxy Activator
700-1 Water Based W&G Remover
710-1 Solvent Based W&G Remover
860-1 Fast
870-1 Medium
885-1 Slow
895-1 Very Slow
925-4 Polyurethane Retarder
2201-1 Flat Black Single Stage
2102-4 Medium Activator
2103-4 Slow Activator
2104-4 Very Slow Activator

That's more than I thought, now that I took inventory.
There are some things from my local jobber that we keep a double backup of ever since COVID.

Not to worry, although there is a significant resin shortage, we have done very well keeping inventory made.
Epoxy sales are up around 300% for the year, and everything else is way up.

One thing we have tossed around for three months is to stop taking new customers until the shortages get better, so far, we have not, but I can see where we may need to revisit that subject soon.
But the new hire we are hoping
Will may make this a nonissue.

Yeah mever been told they were out of anything in 20+ years. I dont find it surprising though. I know for the boat companies, they cant get epoxy resin either. Thats the hardest thing to get. Second is vinyl ester and third is polyester. A few mos back the boat company down the street had orders for 7 boats and they could only get enough resin and glass to make 1 boat

Yea, epoxy resins are a problem, but I have pallets of those.
I was missing a product that takes about 600 grams per 300 gallons.
So minute yet ran us out.
But drawbacks to all the possible substitutes that could have been used.

I know these are unique times but back when I was a design engineer we had to generate a backup plan for every component we used and also have multiple sources when feasible. It was a PITA generating those plans and they were rarely needed but every once in a while they were. Sometimes the backup plan was to keep a lot of inventory of a given component. Chit happens….

Do we have to worry about you retiring to the Bahamas within the next year or two then?

Wow crazy times for sure. Sounds like you guys are putting in some serious hours. I'd love to head south if you need a good employee! Haha
