Turbo 2K primer question

Hi All,

My panel has 2 coats of epoxy and 3 coats of turbo high build. I blocked with 400 grit and have a few spots where metal has shown through. I want to put some more turbo on it and block again. Should I hit the metal spots with epoxy first or can I just go straight to the turbo?

Thanks,
Mike

It would be best to use epoxy for bare metal spots. 400 would be too fine for blocking, unless you have done some previous steps. I like to use gray epoxy under the black turbo, so I know when to quit.

That depends on a lot of factors. If you could tell us a little more about what you are working on, I'm sure you will get steered in the right direction.

I start blocking with 80 grit, but that is on a harder high build primer like slicksand or alluneed. I say "start" with 80 because I'll see real quick if I have high or low spots and I'll want to cut the primer quick since I don't like to sand. If I see an even sand pattern across the panel indicating no high or low spots then I'll quickly go to 150 to sand it smooth. Now Turbo is very easy to sand, so I would start with 150, or 180. But you'll need to use the proper block and technique to get the best results. I mostly use AFS flexible long blocks, but then most of the panels I sand are curved on Corvettes. On flatter surfaces I'll use an acrylic hard block.
