tips to reduce orange peel in clear

B

BUSHMASTER

layed uv clear on real wet and ended up with a lot of texture looking for some tips, used iwata lph 1.4 with silver cap,28 psi at regulator
tips and a understanding where it comes from thanks

regulator on wall its part of a camair qcq dessicant filter, yes psi at full trigger

PSI needs to be measured at the gun. Barry says you need to have the regulator on the gun, but at the very least you must measure at the air inlet of the gun with the gun's air valve (if it has one) wide open, full trigger.

ok, I thought the camair regulator would be pretty accurate so I didn't bother with the one on the gun, using 3/8 air hose and the large automotive type air fittings

It's not a question of accuracy, it's one of position. When air is flowing, the pressure at the wall will not equal the pressure at the gun. With very large fittings and a large short hose, it might be very very close, but still, it needs to be measured where it matters.

I'm a Noobie at all this, but I rigged up a gauge with fittings to go inline with the gun to help set wall pressure. Get what you want at the gun with the trigger pulled, then remove the gauge, and fine tune the gun on some paper taped to the wall. I would have to look at my notes to see what pressures I use with the 400, but I am thinking it was a whole lot higher than 28Lbs at the wall, but everyone's air system is different, so you will have to play with yours and see what works. When you get it right, remember to jot down your setup.
This is just one of so many helpful tricks I've learned from this great forum.
Works for me...YMMV

I have to set my at the wall regulator about 10 PSI higher than what
it will read at the gun. And that's only a 25' hose with the larger
(3/8") fittings.
So with a longer hose and/or std. fittings, it would have to be much higher.
