Thin residue in gun

As an amateur, I use the same 1.3 tip gun for solid SS and epoxy. This has worked fine so far. I clean it after each use with lacquer thinner or aerosol spray gun cleaner. This time I fully disassembled it for cleaning and found a very thin layer of black epoxy residue on all internal surfaces. Is this normal between full cleanings and/or detrimental to performance? I'm guessing I'd have to use a more potent solvent to get it out.

It's normal, and whether it's detrimental or not might depend on who you talk to. All I can tell you is that I don't fully disassemble my gun every time. I also have a gun washer, so that might be helping to minimize residue.

Every once in a while I just break the gun totally down and immerse the parts (minus any gaskets) in a 5 gal pail of stripper for a deep cleaning.

I fully break my gun down and clean it after every time. It doesn’t take that long and only uses a few ounces of lacquer thinner.

Same here. All it takes is just one time to mess something up that you are spraying to help convince that I need to take time to clean every time after it's used.
