The "Jim C. cutting and buffing method" summarized

My Camaro (Show Car) Restoration was Cleared with SPI Universal.

My painter is wet sanding by HAND with 800, 1200, 1500 PSA paper
I bought from the Sanding Source..........
He was trying to use the HARD narrow white acrylic blocks that I bought
from LINEAR BLOCKS (Colten D) and said the 800 Wet paper Clogged Immediately
Now he is using a Hard Foam Block and says it is working better............

It's one way, there are other ways. Some like me do it all by hand with acrylic blocks until the sanding with the ultrafine grits like 2500/3000/500/8000 Trizact. If I do it all with a DA I can't get it flat enough (non wavy) for my taste. Others can and many like the method outlined. What ultimately matters is the end result. How you get there depends on what you are comfortable with.

Has your painter never cut and buffed paint before? It’s odd that he’s taking direction from you.

ultimate and best are very subjective. all depends on the finish your looking for, what your working on and how the clear was sprayed. will it give you the flattest finish..no. it will get you a great 90% job the fastest way possible. if you want ultra flat and you want a high end show winner then you first step should be hard blocked to get the urethane wave out. once its flat you proceed with the rest of the system.
