Tekna pro lite setup for euro 2020 5000

Just few questions on setup to be in the ballpark such as pressure and what clear this stuff sprays similar to doesn't matter brand I've sprayed it except maybe sickens anything helps thanks.

I've only sprayed it with a Sata 5000 RP 1.3 and a Sata 2000 RP 1.4 so a specific setup on the Tekna I can't give you. Here are some general guidelines, SPI (Barry) recommends a 1.4 when spraying any of their clears. If you have a 5000 RP then the 1.3 works well but with the Tekna I would go with the 1.4 (if so equipped). This clear flows a lot so turn down your fluid tip a bit from what you normally use. I like to do close to 75% overlap and move fairly quickly. I found that this will let the clear lay down very nicely. It will flow a lot from when you spray it to where it finally ends up so keep that in mind. Also turn off your booth fans as soon as the overspray clears after your last coat. Makes a difference in how much it flows out. It's not the easiest clear to spray but it's not hard. 4:1:1 pretty much all I do but you can reduce up to 4:1:3. It'll be easier to spray the more you reduce it.

As for a specific brand.....if you've sprayed Transtar Euro Kwik with slow activator it sprays similiar to that but with MUCH more flow. Keep that in mind. At the higher reduction levels it sprays like Nason 465-00. Really easy. At 4:1:1 it reminds me of the old DCU 2001 clear.

Ok starting to get the picture I've spayed all three of those clears not a big fan of the transtar sprays ok but not much depth compared to 465 and definitely not in the same category as 2001 although we're talking spray character not quality .
Since you mentioned 465 and I've sprayed probably 25 gallons with the pro lite my set up has been 28psi 1.3 te20 at 75% overlap tight and fast 2 coats no buffing except minor denib just have to get my head wrapped around that 1.4 tip

Cool I've heard that a lot of guys try te10 cap and love it as long as there using good high solids clear . I'm really hoping the euro 5000 is what I've been looking for I guess tomorrow we shall see

Well I must say that was interesting I don't believe all 1.4 tips are created equally that being said here's the set up tekna pro lite 28 psi fluid out 2 turns 1.4 fluid tip te20 cap euro 5000 fast hardner medium spi reducer 4-1-1 it just wants to bag it on like spraying with a fire hose the clear flows pretty good doesn't remind of 2001 actually more like dau 75 although I know some will probably take that wrong I'm in no way saying anything bad about the product. Next trial 4-1-2 pro lite with 1.3 also forgot booth temp 68 metal temp 67 38% humidity it also seems to dry really fast kinda was expecting it to be a little slower at that temp any ideas appreciated except for buying a sata lol already have a couple just prefer tekna.

Next time try it with slow activator, slow reducer (SPI 885) it behaves a lot differently. At work (collision repair) I never use the fast hardener nor do I ever go faster than the 885 reducer. I see no need. Did you use SPI's reducer or another brand?

I bought slow and fast activator and slow medium and fast spi reducer so I could give the clear a fair chance. I did go down and check it and it flowed out a lot more after a couple hours but it obviously wasn't atomizing as well as I would prefer. The spi reducer is obviously a good deal I can see that rite away
acts just like DT so I'm encouraged.

Like I said I'm not familiar with the Tekna, maybe the 1.3 would help it atomize better. That is what I love about the 5000 RP is the atomization. Best clear gun I've ever used. Oh and I've used a lot of PPG DT over the years. IMO the SPI reducer is superior to it. DBC would lay down slicker with the SPI than with the DT. And the SPI 895 is a truly slow reducer that works well in 95-100 degree temps. Slower than DT895 more like DT898 Plus it's like $20+ a gallon cheaper.

The spi reducer definitely worked well in the cromabase now I wasn't blending or anything just trying to dial in the clear on a HHR hood

I didn't see where you used the TE10 cap with the 1.3. It atomizes more than the 20. Give that a shot.

Ok now we are getting somewhere 4-1-2 pro lite 1.3 28 psi te20 cap fluid 2.5 turns closed coat first then 8 minutes later put the hammer to it 4 minutes later shut booth off now sprays and acts more like deltron 4000 or axalta 4-1 feeling much more enthusiastic now just have keep dialing in. Oh and I seemed to misplace my te10 caps as soon I locate them I will give one a try.
