I am finishing up a project on a car. The car is all black epoxy(been like that for years now) my plan is to clear the hood tonight, sand it all down, black epoxy the sides so they match the fenders and front and then final clear the center.

My questions is do you think 3 days or so is good enough to tape on the epoxy and not have it mark it up? Ill spray 2 coats(un reduced)

I can't answer your question so, I'll leave that question to the pro's here but, I had to comment on the hood scoop.....that is AWESOME !!!.

Holy double take Batman, I thought that was a carbon fiber scoop you just painted flames on. You out did yourself with that one!.

Impressive to say the least.

Beautiful job on the artwork!
As to the question about the tape on epoxy all I can suggest is test it, preferably off the work.
One bad experience I had was with Pask Mask vinyl paint mask on 24-30hr. fresh epoxy (white). The adhesive on the paint mask became part of the epoxy, bad reaction. But the adhesive on your tape likely is different, so IDK.

I am still torn if I may just reclear it and wait a few days and tape on the clear then do the epoxy....I am also toying with the idea of the second clear being a matte finish to give it a different type of look.. not sure yet. When I clear it today Ill know for sure if I like it all in gloss..

Have you seen Jim C's wood grain effect?.....this aint nothing compared to that!

I have not. I'll do search for it tonight.

While I have your attention, do you, or have you ever clear coated over SPI black epoxy? If you have, does the clear still leave the black epoxy a Matt finish?

Will the epoxy ever turn gray once it's been clear coated?

I have never cleared over black epoxy. Honestly this is the only car I have ever left in epoxy for a "permanent" deal. It may get painted one day, but this was a quick 2 day deal that just stayed.

Looking back, this was back in 2016 at my old place....holy cow how time flys!
