Might be a little long winded, so please bear with me. LOL.
I'll be reshooting my chevelle hopefully this summer. After reading a load of threads on this forum I decided to check out my "good" gun. Mind you, I dont do this for a living or anything. I picked this gun up brand new in 1996 when I had to shoot my tahoes nose. I wanted to make the upgrade into the HVLP arena from my sharpe and binks siphon feed guns of yesteryear. So the price was right and it worked nicely.
All my other paint jobs, nothing big, just a couple of chassis', stanley steel doors, an aluminum boat hull, fender and bumper cover, I shot with a cheapo hvlp gun that I bought from grizzly woodworkers tools back in the early 90's. Guns been great and lays paint nice and flat. It has a 1.4 tip in it. I shot bc/cc and single stage with the gun with no problems. But all small jobs.
Well, I have a couple of questions about my "good" gun (which might be an antique at this point) but its only shot some bc/cc on one occasion and it was cleaned perfectly.
The gun is a Devilbiss Finishline FLG. No other numbers on it. When you remove the cap the nozzle is "plastic" and its stamped 1.8. I do have the original second nozzle and some washers that came with the gun. The second nozzle is a 1.6.
I see on the devilbiss site they only sell metal nozzles so I dont even know if I could get any plastic nozzles for it or if any of the metal ones would fit. I see that I will probably need a 1.3, 1.4 nozzles to shoot my metallic base and spi universal clear.
Would it be worth it to get the other size nozzles IF I CAN FIND THEM. I see the metal nozzles are anywhere from 40-60 bucks, so would my money be better spent in getting another gun? And maybe using this one for epoxy sealer or primer?
I dont want to break the bank for a decent gun but I'd be willing to go into the 200-250 range if it would give me nice results. Would it be worth picking up a clean used gun and putting a rebuild kit into it? I've done that before with good results.
If the recommendation is for a new gun, what would be my best options in the NEW and in the USED categories???
Below is a pic of the gun.
Thanks guys for the help.
