spi single stage

I am going to be doing an overall on a SS 454 truck "black" I will be replacing the bed, doors and hood so there is alot of jamming to be done. I am cosidering using single stage. I have a few concerns about the pros and cons of SS vs. BC/CC . How do they compare as far as buffing? DOI? Repairability if any problems ? Durability ? Another cosideration is clearing the single stage. However I don't think there would be any advantage in that. What are your thoughts?

We just made a batch of both last week and I split a big fender in half, base on one side and ss on the other, hard to tell one from other as employees thought they were both base clear.

Buffing SS should be the same as using 5000, 5100 or 2100, base clear with 4000 or 4100 would be a little easier.

Its a toss up.

SPI single stage black looks and buffs great

Thanks for that pic Rusty, that looks like what I want. How many coats is that?

Also since its ready to order and I don't want to 'miss out' again, can anyone tell me if I'll need more than a gal doing just the exterior but including the bed of my 58 gmc 1/2 ton? It's going over black epoxy.
maybe more to the point if I ordered 2 gals how much could I expect to have left over?

I'd want three coats applied minimum, order two gallons and you'll likely have a half gallon-1 quart left over. You're shooting the bed inside and out as well as the front panel? Cab and front clip complete?

Thanks Bob, Yes to the cab and bed questions though I have toyed with the idea of using Barry's bed liner tinted black, applied smooth, for the inner bed sides. But I will want to follow along more like Rusty's 3+3 tech so I can see 2 gals in my future. The rest of the undercarriage is already either Dupont Black SS (in the front fender wells cause I wanted to use the qt up) or Black epoxy. It won't hurt to have the left over I'll find a use for it sooner than later.
