--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Barry K,

Went to spray some epoxy today and when I started to pour in the activator it looked darker then usual. Like a dark cup of tea.

The date on the bottom of the can is 1/21/09 is it still good or should I order some new activator? I have like 3/4 of a gallon left.

I do have another quart of activator unopened but it has no date on it. Is it ok to use this one if so then I would only need to purcahse 2 new quarts?

All my paints I keep in the basement before use. If that makes any difference.

Thanks for all you have help me out on in the past.

I have noticed it gets darker over time but I still use it and haven't had a problem.

Its normal, the epoxy activator will darken as can is opened a and it gets air. Don't hurt a thing.

Thanks guys for the quick reply. That is great news

I did spray some small parts last night and checked them this morning and even thou they have a yellowish tint to them I tried pressing my fingernail into a spot and it did not leave a mark. That is great news

So how would one know NOT to use the activator? Is there a certain color or consistancy to it that one would know? Date from open? I opened a new can about 2 months ago, used it last week and I noticed it had a darker yellowish tint to it. I used it with no problems or discoloration of the primer. I did purge the can with argon this time though.

Color makes no difference, I have only seen two activators get week in last 15 years and both were about three years old and both were allowed to freeze and warm up every winter.

Epoxy goes weak over time, so I would just store at a stable temp, like in basement or closet when not using and plan on pitching in three years for safety sake.
