Some advice for newbie

I have only sprayed a few times. Each time it seems that it never goes as well as I would hope. Here are some of the things that have gone wrong or have been a challenge.

1. I am having trouble regulating the gun pressure. I have a regulator in line with the nozzle, is this the wrong way to do it?

2. I am having trouble adjusting the gun. No instructions included. I bought a basic Devilbiss sp? 3 gun kit. I think, not even sure what brand it is.

3. Having trouble estimating how much paint to mix each time, so seems like I either mix too little or too much.

4. Having trouble mixing paint. First mix goes ok, I can see the numbers on the side of the cup. After that the mixed paint hides the numbers so how do you guys see to mix? Clean the cup, throw it away, wipe the inside every time, rinse with cleaner? Trying to get a rythm down.

5. How do you spray upside down? Much of the areas I have been spraying are the underside of fenders. One of my projects is not on a rotisserie so I have to turn the gun up, but then the paint runs out the hole in the cup and the gun runs out of paint.

As you can see, lots of issues. Thanks for the help.

* a small diaphram type regulator at the gun will meter the air the best, a good one like RTI would be nice but even a cheap harbor frieght or Astro will do the job, keep your mainline pressure high

2. I am having trouble adjusting the gun. No instructions included. I bought a basic Devilbiss sp? 3 gun kit. I think, not even sure what brand it is.
* read Barry's gun adjustment guide

3. Having trouble estimating how much paint to mix each time, so seems like I either mix too little or too much.
*try to mix up a little more than needed for the first coat, then see what's left and mix more accordingly for coat 2 and or 3, 4

*wipe the cup out and reuse, throw it away and use new, or just use another smaller container to measure and pour into the larger container, anything will work: shot glass, dixie cup, measuring spoons, soup cans, medicine dispensers, condiment cups....anything that will provide an equal amount of measurement

5. How do you spray upside down? Much of the areas I have been spraying are the underside of fenders. One of my projects is not on a rotisserie so I have to turn the gun up, but then the paint runs out the hole in the cup and the gun runs out of paint.
*that gravity cup isn't designed for spraying upside down but you can get a little more angle without drips by folding up a piece of toweling and set it in the lit of the cup, use tape to hold it there and cover the complete lid with tape except for the forwardmost part for air to enter. The toweling will catch and hold the paint if it comes out of the vent hole.

Ok getting better, but have a few more questions. After spraying first cup of chassis black, should I wash the gun out each time? I was shooting multiple cups when the gun clogged and started spraying dry. Read somewhere that I had to clean the gun after every spray. This is a lot of work and makes spraying slow.

Are you straining your paint? If it's a problem of paint curing on the end of the fluid tip just pour the left over paint back in the mixing container and put a few ounces of reducer in the gun while it sets between coats.

Yes I strain my paint each time I pour it in. Yes, it does look like paint is sticking to the nozzle area. When you say leftover paint, are you saying while spraying if it starts to dry spray, stop and do what you suggest, then return the paint to gun and spray again? What is best for spraying upside down? This is a big problem bc so much of the areas requir wired angles. I have the Divibis guns, should I buy the D cups system? Thanks for the help.
