Slick sand complete failure

Well, I'm about to be one of those SS-haters! I tried to spray SS and the gun wouldn't even spit it out. I reduced probably more than the 5-10% that I should have, but nothing helped. I was using a 2.5, and increased the pressure from 28 to almost 40, nothing helped.

The only thing I thought about after throwing away 16oz of SS was that I was using a PPS cup (took filter off gun) should I have used a regular gravity cup?

What are my options? The car is fairly straight with only a few dings and previous body repairs (dent pulled from driver QP ahead of rear wheel). Should I just use filler on the epoxy, spot epoxy where i sand through, and take my chances with 2K?

I'm at one of those points where I just want to give up! Please help!

Are you sure your gun didn't have something wrong with it? Why don't you try a regular gravity cup but run some solvent through first. Maybe there was a dried chunk clogging up your gun?

I know nothing about PPS, so can't comment whether it's OK for poly primer.

I know you said you took the filter off gun but the pps cups I use have filter in them, but it sounds more like something stopped up with you're gun. I think i'm gonna do like shine and use epoxy only, I screw enough stuff so maybe the less different products I use the better.

I switched to a non pps gravity gun and ran solvent , no problem. SS even more diluted , no go. I think maybe good old fashioned filler is for me! LOL!

I don't believe so. I started without reducing and worked my way up. Used urethane reducer per the directions

Well, I'm ashamed to admit I completely forgot to strain it. I ran the regular non PPS cup but not straining. I'm tired and Not firing on all 8! Tomorrow I might try the straining and running reducer through the gun after each panel. I'm beat and not thinking straight!

Before you use the gun unscrew the fluid tip and look inside the tip with a flashlight, 9 x's out of ten there is a small buildup in there and it can be a small as a pin-head to cause the problem you are having.

i have a sata primer gun specifically made for poly primer. it has a 2.5 tip on it same as yours and will spray evercoat polyester primers like there is no tomorrow. it comes out like a garden hose. something is wrong with the gun. you have something trapped in the tip or something.

I'm with Jim C also have sata primer-putty gun with 2.5 tip and never had issue with spraying slicksand. Joe

Also make sure that the cups vent isn't clogged. That will restrict flow as well. I've seen guys drill the little hole slightly bigger to prevent clogs
