Single Stage Paint

Im taking hinges apart on 56 Ford F-100, replacing hinge pins, and repainting. Im using SPI products except for stock color base. I want to get a quart of single stage stock for hinges. Any suggestions on where to try? Stock Color is Medow Green.

PPG Concept "DCC" is an excellent single stage urethane. I think you could get by with a pint or even less if it's just hinges.

Thanks Crash, I will see if I have a Dupont dealer here in the valley.

Local jobber told me Concept was discontinued. I tried to get some last month for an engine.
I've use Dupont ChromaPremier single stage on my single stage projects. (Sorry, I'll always call it Dupont- just the way I am)

I hate to admit it but I used Nason Ful-thane on some Ford tractor tin. Just to keep the cost down and It's a work tractor. It sprayed good, sanded and rubbed good. Price difference per qt. was 65 bucks for the Nason and 187.00 I believe for a qt of green Chroma Premeire. Fairly substantial. I won't use it on a restoration for a customer though.

I musta been smoking something good when I posted this, not sure where I got Dupont from PPG. I know better and actually have a PPG dealer here I used before I got turned on to SPI. I will see what they want for a pint of single stage for my hinges.

I guess Concept is discontinued. Shows you how often I use single stage. My jobber says that one of the Delfleet Evolution products is the equivalent now, but there are several versions and we don't know which one is the "good" one. I wonder what Shine is using now that Concept is gone? You might want to PM him, if anyone would know which SS to use, it would be him.

I ordered some Pro Spray Base from Chad before it went over to Valspar. Im going to order up a quart of Universal Clear and Activator. I will just get my feet wet with enough to spray the firewall before I put the cab back on the frame and then be ready to install engine and wiring harness. I can do the hinges then for way cheaper than going the single stage activator route.

All the cool kids are spraying 2 and 3 stage these days. Single stage is for huge things that you hate to go around more than a couple times.

For single stage, I used PPG Delfleet Essential. Besides this and the Omni MTX, it's the only ones I still can get from PPG in Canada. It actually sprays nice, it is claimed to be a polyurethane. Only thing, being a fleet paint line, matches are a little off for cars some times.

I have been doing completes and to save the customer a little money I usually spray single stage on all the jambs and under the hood and trunk. even though it might be a metallic color the customer usually will not care so much on the jambs. Plus it saves me a little time. But once I have the car all together and jammed I always use base clear.

Thanks Jamon, I have heard of a lot of guys doing that. I just have not got around having to buy activator for single stage paint over and above the B/C I will have already.
