Setting in the sun?

Barry, are you saying it is risky for adhesion to put epoxy coated panels in the sun to help cure the epoxy?

Yes, unless we are doing for heat on a cold day and only for the day.

Its not the heat, although it helps but the UV'S that draw the solvents.
One day is sun it has always been said is equal to 7-10 days in a warm shop, I do disagree with that as i think its more like 19-23 days if 70 degrees.
Think about this, in all the car manuals its says do not wax for 90 days????
First most new cars have 4-4.8 mils of paint on them from e-coat to clear,That is equal to 1.5 coats of universal on a bad day and most bake at 400 degrees but they know it takes sun to finish curing.
If they bake at 400, why is your recommendation not to exceed 120 for 10-15 minutes? I find if I follow that, it is still soft to buff well.

With Clear coat. My driveway runs east to west. If I push the car out of the garage for the UV rays, there will only be on one side of the car in the sun, the other side is in the shade. Does it matter? Come to think of it with my trees etc, the time the sun on that part of the driveway is very limited.
Does it matter if it is a cloudy day when the car is pushed outside?

I will put things out even on cloudy days, mother nature can be a wonderful tool and doesn't cost a dime to use, she can do things no man made item can replicate.

I'm a little confused here, In one of our texts Barry you said 4 hours in the sun is the best method to cure epoxy. Are you saying anything past the 4 hours can cause problems?

No I said for cold one day, in short is fine, using the sun to cure due to cold shop. In a round about way.
Problem could come in if you sat car out in sun for two or more full days, lot of factors here and note I said could, not will.

Barry, Say I'm using SS or Universal clear coat. Does pushing a car outside work if the car is in the shade? How about a cloudy day? Do the UV rays get to it no matter if it is in the sun or not? Today it is 55 degrees, rainy, a light mist to drizzle at times. Definitely not sunny. Does pushing the car outside on a day like today help? We can say for this discussion that the clear or SS is 24 hours old so the water won't spot it...

Shade and rain clouds do little good.

Crap. My driveway is shaded by trees. IF I get sun on it is only for a short time in the middle of the day.
Sounds like I just have to wait it out longer in my garage...

OK, now for someone that does have sun. Do they have to turn the car around so the sun gets to the other side?

Not really, if temp is 50 with bright sun, after about 30 minutes the gray epoxy will get 80-90 degrees, black will get 90-115, all we are trying to do is heat or bake the car because its too cold in garage.
