After struggling with orange peel this past weekend on my first paint job I discovered that a lot of painters just leave the fluid wide open, adjust the pressure by ear, and set it about 3/4 off of full when looking at the triangular pattern coming out (or on full in some occassions where you want it one really wet).
I find that using the trigger as a variable control, I am able to just back off it when I am getting peel and dial it in quicker and easier by feel than by adjusting the knob and locking it. I can lock it though once I get the perfect amount dialed in with the handle.
