Sanded through to metal before ReSpray

I'm going over the entire car with a gray scuff pad and there are only a few areas that have touchup paint applied over the years that needed to really be smoothed out. One of these is on the door, and in using 600 grit I went down to the metal to smooth out the chipped paint. What is the best way to address this moving forward? I wasn't planning on sealing the entire car but rather go straight to base as the existing paint is overall in good condition. I was thinking of shooting some reduced epoxy over just this area before base, or maybe full strength and the feathering out the edges? The hood (fiberglass) was sanded all the way down has 2 coats of epoxy but other than that the rest of the car is scuffed with the gray pad.

The reason for not wanting to seal is that after discussion, the base (wanda) would already have a good blue undertone and coverage would be much better. This is a sonic blue metallic on a 2003 mustang. I may just need to reduce epoxy and seal the entire car....any ideas and suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance.

No way would I spray base over old base.

I’d scuff the entire car and seal with epoxy. You need to spray to complete coverage regardless. A metallic blue will go over gray epoxy fine, I’ve done it with Viper blue which is a very translucent metallic electric blue. I’ve done some lighter and darker blues over gray epoxy as well.

So I’m good with having scuffed the entire car with a gray pad (dry) and then seal everything with reduced epoxy a couple hours before the first cost of base?
