sand paper types?

I am going to be blocking sometime in the near future - baby on the way though so it might be a bit out. but anyways I am wondering if it matter if I use PSA paper with the adhesive back for blocking or can I just use the paper by taping it to the block or folding it around the block. Does it really matter is the psa just for convience or does it provide an advantage? Up to now I have been using my longboard with clamp and regular paper to block out filler and level stuff out. On the smaller block I just hold it wrapped out tight or I tape it on the top. It has been working so far but would the PSA paper provide a smoother flatter finish or is it just for convience of use? Thanks again for all your advise. I got to order a few thing so figure find out before I waste money

It is more of a convenience thing.
But on long blocks without clamps, it's the only kind that will work.
I use both, but the PSA may actually work a little better because
you have no slippage. The quality of the paper is more inportant
than the fastening type. Buy good paper.

Thanks for the reply. What would you consider to be good types and what are not so good types? Would norton continous roll sandpaper be pretty good?

I like it ok in the coarse grits.
I use it in 36 to 60 grit for shaping filler.
For 80 grit and above, I prefer the 3M gold on the roll,
it's expensive but worth it.
For color sanding with fine grits, 1000 to 3000
I love Nikkens, carried by Meguiars.
Everyone has their favorites, but generally you get what you pay for
in sandpaper.
