Rust Removal

The weather is getting too unstable to continue sand blasting outside. I am restricted to working in the shop now and still have some rust and paint to remove. Im using a Makita variable grinder with 80 grit disk and that works awesome at slow speed. Paper does not clog up and disks last a long time. In small areas, I can use small wire brushes and roloc disks. I also have a spot blaster for some small pitted areas that can be reached. So that leaves behind some minor pitting where rust may never be removed, but you know specs of it are left in the pits.

Picklex or rust inhibiters are discouraged with SPI Epoxy Primer. So if I spray epoxy primer over the surface, will all those little specs of rust bubble thru the primer eventually? Im thinking if they are encapsulated from air and water, they will not cause me problems down the road. If air AND moisture find there way to the rust speck, they will grow and blister the paint.

Is this wishful thinking or will it work?

Do what you can to remove as much as possible, clean it really well and shoot three coats of epoxy.

Im getting it looking pretty good, but I will do the three coats too. Once small area I have some black stain that looks like stock undercoating that kind of got heated into the metal. Ive used the 700 on it but Im still not happy with it. More cleaning. Thanks Bob!
