RIP Harbor Freight refrigerated dryer

Lizer

Mad Scientist
I was thinking I might break down and get one of these some day for just $500. I was just looking at them on their website a few weeks ago and now it's been completely scrubbed from the website. It looks like they no longer carry it.

Hopefully it will convince folks sitting on the fence to move forward and get one. Great purchase and you never know when it might be gone…. :)

No, because I'll just post another RIP thread and the internet detectives will find it in short order. :p

I bought this one off Craigslist for $200.

For anyone wanting a cheaper option, I made my own using and old dorm fridge with a five gallon bucket full of water inside, with 25' of copper coiled inside the bucket. Just has a normal water trap/filter on the outlet. Keeps the air dry even when sandblasting in the summer.

Did you just drill holes through the side to run the copper pipe? I really like this idea.

Do you think beer would remove more water from the air, or would it 'evaporate' too quickly?

Price going up - got mine a few years ago for $350 with a coupon. Works great ! Has held up well . Needed to replace the automatic drain with something better quality- the factory one sucks

I also purchased a HF air dryer. I replaced the automatic drain valve before it became an issue. I see the price has increased. I paid $60 for it last year.

$350 what I paid for mine when it was listed for $500 on-line. 99.9% sure you can get it cheaper when it shows up with a couple of small dings on the panels from shipping. A simple phone call to HF and my discount was issued after emailing photos of some small dings in the panels from shipping.

Lizer, also look for HF all exclusive 25% sales. They have them a couple times a year on all products.

Tha'ts a pretty good score!
Yes, I took it and the sandblast cabinet as a blessing from the Lord.
The guy with the Speedaire had just closed up his paint shop and was getting rid of everything.

I then saw an ad for a Sandblast Cabinet for $200 listed for sale at a nearby chrome plating shop. I went thinking I was gong to get a small blast cabinet to put on a bench. Instead he lead me to one of these:

It has an attached dust collector and a stand alone dust collector came with it also.

When he saw the shocked look on my face, he said that it wasn't a commercial quality blast cabinet. That they use it about 8 hours a day and the constant upkeep wasn't worth it, so he ordered a better one and wanted this one gone.

I couldn't get the money out of my wallet fast enough. LOL He then included 4 bags of media.

That's a very clean set up. How do you keep your floor so clean!? Mine would look like a homeless camp behind there.

Hey Mike,
What is all the copper manifold lookin hardware hanging on the wall about ?
That is some really good looking pipe fitting.
And why are all the valves open ?
I contemplated getting a hf years ago or making one, what I did for a living, but with all the loops, traps, refrigerant filter driers and the Devilbiss bulb air filters have never gotten any moisture ever. It's not the GulfCoast here but Arkansas is Humid as about anywhere in the South.
If your piping "system" is a short one, then it would be a must have for sure.
