Had some color match issues with a white hyundai I painted a door on. I originally had used lesonal base (non catalyzed), but it is just too yellow. I am needing to respray using SW Ultra 7000 base. I originally painted and cleared this door on Jun 3 and used polar accelerator in the two coats of clear. It was cut open and buffed Jun 5th, and then sat in the sun for half a day. I need to respray using the SW base (as their variance is closer). Will i encounter a lifting issue going over the fresher UV clear sprayed on monday? Can i do this with lighter coats of base and then re-clear? Someone mentioned due to the stabilizer used in SW base, I could have a lifting issue. I was going to 1000 the freshly painted and cleared panel, do some grey scotch briting and wipe down with grease and wax. The grease and wax cleaner I have is spi brand, but it's not the waterborne type. As log as I don't break through the clear on this panel, anyone see any issues with this? Just wanted to check before moving forward. Any advice? Thanks Guys!

Just use light coats and give it some good time to flash-the longer the base stays wet the more chance of lifting. If you didn't sand through the clear anywhere you'll be less likely to have any problems. Let it flash real good before shooting the clear. Always catalyze your basecoats.

Should I be ok to use the solvent based grease n wax, since i don't have the waterborne? I figured I should be ok as long as I let everything flash good first.

I never had Ultra7000 lift over fresh paint, actually polyester bases are a lot "hotter" on average it seems. I always used their RHF reducer, though, and can't say if their would be a difference with any other reducer. Ultra7000 with RHF is very mild, I have even shot it over some broken through spots with no problem at all.

That's honestly the best thing about Ultra, and probably the nicest thing I will ever say about it.

Worked out great guys! Thanks for the advice. I did have the rear door i had originally sprayed die back this second go around (due to trapped solvents I believe). I simply sanded it open with 1500 threw it outside in the sun for a few hours, pulled it in let it cool, and it buffed beautiful. It buffed so nice and easy, I am still tickled to death. Loving the universal clear!
