Regular 2K - Small Spray Pattern and Dry Spray

Hello everyone.

Sprayed 2K on a couple body panels yesterday. Used FinishLine 3 primer gun and 1.7 tip. Reduced about 5% and added about an ounce of polar accelerator to 16 ounces of mixed primer. Was about 60 degrees (or less).
This stuff sprays thick. At 24 psi (gun recommends 23 psi for this gun) and 1.7 tip and fan wide open, my spray pattern was only about 4-5 inches tall. It is normally about 8-9 inches tall.
I increased the pressure a couple psi, but that didn't help much (and creates a lot of overspray).
I also had quite a bit of dry spray in some areas too.

Should I be using the 2.2 tip for this use? Or reduce much more? I like this product. Easy to sand. Easy to spray. Fills great. I just need to get it dialed in better with my equipment.

Advice? Thanks guys.

hey Pat
you're getting the dry spray and small fan from not having the fluid control open enough.
start off with the fluid turned out 1 turn from fully closed then work your way out a 1/2 turn at a time.
i found that 2-1/2 turns works really good for me

keep us posted

Thanks for all the advice. I will try the fluid adjustment (was only open about 1.5 turns) and see if that increases spray pattern. I'll also try adding adding more reducer.
Nobody thought I should go to a 2.2 tip. I'd rather stay with the 1.7 as I don't like to hose this stuff on. I prefer multiple thinner coats. And as a novice painter, I tend to like to go slow with the paint gun.

Same primer same gun but with 2.2 tip and I'm having dry spray and major peel also. Some spots I get it right others not so much. With a 2.2 tip (and the recommended being 1.8) I did cut back the fluid control maybe did it too much? Also 23 PSI at the gun (recommended) seems a bit low, shouldn't I try more like 30 ?

I should add that this is my last coat of 2K, (regular build) and I wanted it smooth like a sealer. Just filling some 320 scratches I'm seeing all over.

Embarrased...my cup-lid vent-hole is plugged. Seems to spray smooth when I pop the lid off every pass. Guess I need to pay more attention. I did clean the gun just neglected the lid!
