Ready to block sand the seal questions

Lizer thats great! That would save me a few days of waiting for it to dry enough to dry sand it. I am effectually slow at this not being a pro and that makes all these windows a lot of pressure. Wonder if it’s just me that feels that way.
I think you’re making it more complicating than it needs to be.

I’m not a pro either, but I have been using SPI products for 13 years, do a lot of painting projects, and have spent a lot of time learning from Barry over those years. I get the slow part. I think I’m still slow too.

What is 710? I do think too much…..,it’s been required of me for too long….

Lots of great information here. Im painting a 1940 Mercury for a friend and he changed his mind and would like it prepped and sprayed with SPI Epoxy sealer. Just until recently did I start reading tips on spraying and cure times on this product.
I started spraying at about 4:00 pm at about 78 degree weather, finished my 3rd coat at about 7:00 pm with around 64 degree weather and them about 55 degrees throughout the night. Let mixed Epoxy set for 30 minutes before spraying with 30-40 minutes in between coats.
( 1 light, 1 heavy, 1 a lil heavier)

Would the epoxy cure fine? It will be 75-85 degrees during the remaining of the week.

Also he is planning on leaving it with that Epoxy until around August as he is getting a little more custom metal work done before I paint it a single stage black.

Do you have any idea what the metal temp was? That’s what’s really important and the first 24 hr of epoxy temps is pretty critical. If it’s not going to be at least in the 60’s for a full 24 hr period I don’t spray epoxy, or if it will get colder at night I’ll let it sit in the sun for a few hrs (sun and UV about halves the cure time) or put my infrared lamp on it. So, I’d let it sit in the sun as much as you can and hopefully those cooler overnight temps didn’t harm anything too bad.

Just because it gets that cold at night doesn’t mean that’s how cold your shop got. I keep a thermometer in my shop so I can monitor temps as well as infrared thermometer to monitor metal temps, which need to be minimum 65.

On that note, I will usually let the metal sit in the sun for an hr or two to get nice and warm prior to spraying. Same for the epoxy. The warmer the epoxy is the better.
