Question about DA pad face type

I'm shopping for a 6" inch DA to use in the cutting steps prior to buffing and am trying to narrow down which pad face type is the most versatile: PSA or hook and loop. It seems like the sanding films are PSA, but trizacts are hook and loop. Any suggestions on which type I should get?

I'm hook and loop all the way from 240 to 3000, re-usable, psa once it's dusty, forget it.

yes hook and loop. almost all finishing films for color sanding are hook and loop. you'll be hard pressed to find any in psa form because psa on a da loads quickly and is really prone to leaving pigtails. finishing films are almost always used with a soft interface pad which are all hook and loop. for your sander you'll want a 3/16" orbit. dont let them sell you on the 3/32 one. they do nothing for you except make the job take 10 times as long.

Jim, would it be worth the money as a hobbyist to invest in Hook and loop sand paper and the blocks made specific for it? Local jobber was trying to sell it to me when I was looking 600 grit for block sanding final coat before paint.

i use all velcro for sanders but longboard paper i always use psa. i have always felt that the point of me blocking is to get stuff really flat and velcro just adds cushion that i dont want there.
