Protecting painted parts for storage

Barry, I plan to cover panels in the unheated side of the building once in SS with new moving blankets from HF. So if I go the flow coat route, say 5 coats total, no need to wait that long? I was thinking 3-4 weeks.

Get some cotton towels or cotton sheets from Wal-Mart or the like. I'd be wary of moving blankets unless they are very high quality and perfectly clean. If they are the HF ones forget it.
What Barry stated was that if you want to cover it in plastic, it's one month for every coat. Covering them in something breathable like cotton sheets you don't have to follow that rule.

I have made the mistake of covering freshly cleared panels with plastic and also with heavy cloth. Caused severe blushing and in an extreme case, fibers were stuck in the clear.

Not worth the risk.

i saw a car collection some years ago that all had plastic on them. suppose to keep the dust off. i mentioned it could damage the paint and the guys went nuts. telling me how the plastic protected it bla bla bla. then they started pulling plastic to show me. i found bubbles and water damage on the first 3 . they were freaking out . my bet is every one of them had some level of damage .

plastic aint your friend .

To clarify what I said I didnt mean you could cover few day old clear, but after a few weeks with some time in the sun, you can cover with sheets or towels.

I was watching a guy on YouTube explaining how to examine C3 corvettes for birdcage rust. He said, "this one was under the blue tarp of death." Cracked me up ;)

sheets work great. i had car covers made from old sheets. kept crap off cars in the shop and washable.. i still have a couple of walmart covers i bought in 86 . made from cotton like a sheet. but plastic will create all kinds of problems if any solvent happens to leach out . also, moisture from concrete will get under it.

Stopped at Saint Vincent DePaul, similar to Goodwill today. Picked up some washed, free of stains and tears, 100% cotton bed sheets. 5 to $8 depending on size. Thank you Someday Driver for posting the question.

No problem, I did exactly the same thing. St Vini's is a great place to get "protective wrap". I almost felt bad cutting up a really nice cotton duvet cover.
