Prospray

T

Toms 57 Chevy

Does anybody know where I can get Pro spray paint. I need a quart and I know Chad does not handle it anymore.

Why are you stuck on ProSpray?
It is a very good product for the price. Sprays easy, good coverage and color plus Chad & Kate are easy to deal with. Locally the only options I have in the same price range are Limco and Omni and not big fan of either one. Wanda is available but it mixes 2:1 rather than 1:1 and the PPG place that sells it has raised their prices so that people will buy the Omni line.

Right now I am trying to get a decent quality base coat in Subaru 433 Spruce Pearl. Any suggestions?

Omni Plus is crap, I know I have to spray it on a daily basis. Color match is decent but coverage sucks and metallic used do not match. Much more muddier than OEM paints I have to match it too. Wanda from everything I've heard is excellent. Jim C on here swears by it. Lesonal (Glasurit value line) is a good system, Ive used that and Glasurit quite a bit in the past. PPG DBC would be a good choice as well, just more expensive than some of the others.

WE can send you Moto-Base if you like?

Good to know, we have a local shop that has Omni and I think we are going to switch him out.

Chad is right, sent an email have gotten nothing. I am in a little bind. I have been doing some paint correction on my 57. I am running short on my silver. My next door neighbor has a restoration shop and he told me he could mix the paint (R-M). I am not sure of the color match. Of course I still have some proyspray so I guess it could be matched. I don't know anything about R-M. Any thoughts?
Thanks-Tom

You could have him mix a sample in Diamont which is their better paint line. Limco is R-M 2nd level line and not as good as Diamont is as far as coverage and color holdout goes. Do spray some test panels first tho to see how close match is. Use a good reducer also such as SPI. Once I used SPI reducer I quit using anything else. Doing sprayouts first may take time but it's quicker than respraying something that don't match. R-M Diamont is a good line to use. I have used it several times and had coverage in 2 coats but put 3 just to be sure I had not missed any areas. I normally use Chromabase but any quality line should give you good results. Hope this helps.

My '68 Coronet R/T was painted with Diamont. Metallic Racing Green color and the coverage and ease of spray was great. It is a bit pricey though when compared to ProSpray.

If you know how to paint then you know you can tint and blend. I don't care what it was first sprayed with it can be matched with tinting if needed. If you have a restoration friend then he should be able to do tinting for you, if you have a local jobber their in-house rep. can also tint it for you.

You would never want to panel paint a repair and hope for a color match. Blending is your only option for an undetectable repair. If you are in a bind use one of the majors like PPG, Axalta, BASF. PPG DBC would definitely close enough to blend. As would any of the other Majors. Chad could mix it for you in MotoBase, plus he could provide quality support in answering any questions you have. Personally I'd just go with DBC blend it and be done with it.

Yes I could probably just make a match in Moto-Base.. Word on the street is that color match on DBC is out the window.. Do you use DBC? What are your thoughts if so.. Sorry to change subject, but PPG seems to be putting in all of their effort into Water.

It's always been pretty good for me. I haven't heard that. I've found that DBC formulas are usually very close. Now I know that when they went lead free it threw off a lot of the older formulas as they weren't changed to compensate for the difference with the lead free toners. Tales a bit of trial and error to get it close. Late model stuff though is almost always close if there is a variance there is a formula for it as well.

Prospray is really nice,,, and I've recently tried Moto-base and was very happy with it.

I hear so many different things I don't know what to think sometimes.. But I do hear a lot of color match issues with DBC, also it seems that a lot of shops can't tint a color.
