Product Compatibility Question

I’m planning to spray a hood, fender and door on an 86 Ford Truck after repairing a fender bender. So I’ve sprayed SPI epoxy primer and 2K primer. I may seal with it with a coat of epoxy yet. I’m planning to mix some brands of products so I want to get some advice to make sure I’m on the right track. I need to match the old paint, so I’m having my jobber mix some PPG Deltron DBC basecoat. I have some left over Kirker EC100 clear which I would like to use. Do you see any problems with compatibility? Also can I do without mixing in the DX57? Any advice, recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

No issues with compatibility but why in the world would you spend the money for the PPG base and put the Kirker over it??? Buy the PPG clear.

haha 2x

i had to read that post twice to make sure i was seeing things right. kirker is about the lowest bottom barrel clear i have ever tried. even a cheap economy line in ppg would be 100 times better.

i catch hell every time i say something about kirker . it is the repair from hell . omni would be better .

ha. Its a work truck, I would use some bottom of the barrel basecoat, but I need it to match the rest of my truck. I was thinking about the Kirker only because if I use I wouldn't have to buy any clear. What about the DX57, think I can do without it?

is that hardener? you can do without if you want. bases dont have to have a hardener. just improves adhesion, durability and chipping on things like bumpers, eh hum....work trucks, etc.

OK, now I understand, I was worried when you mentioned PPG base that this was a collector car or something, shoot use what you have up!!!!

Thanks for the comments. I've tried the Kirker clear once for a race car and it turned nice, buffed nicely, but it sits in the garage most of the time. I've thought about it some more and I may go with a PPG clear because my truck does sit in the sun often. For me, the price of PPG products has taken all the fun out of painting. I miss the days of buying most everything I needed for a paint job for less than about $150

Order some production clear from Spi. The fun will be back in! I shoot all ppg at work. Their shopline clear which sprays nice but is thin is still almost $200 for a gallon kit.

I recently started using production clear at home and I love it! But I still have a soft spot for UV!

A quart kit of Universal would be plenty for that job. If your time is worth anything, $70 worth of clear is the least of your worries, imo.
