Possible to sand basecoat then clear?

I sprayed ppg shopline base and have a few issues.

Can I sand out some dirt without having to resprayed complete panel and go right to clearcoat?

Thanks jeff

If it's a solid color, you might be able to get away with sanding and not spraying more basecoat.

But why chance it when is very easy to spot in a little bit more basecoat where you removed the dirt.

If it's a metallic color, you will definitely need to spray more basecoat after your sanding is done.

Jorge, thanks for reply. Obviously I am new at this. What would be the possible issues with solids, scratches visible, dull area thru clear? I saw a video on restoring headlights and they sanded with 1500 then cleared and they looked great.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Evan some factory solid colors have pearls in them that will be disrupted by sanding and then you will have blotchy areas when your clear. Wet sand the areas with 600 and then spot in some base. Wait proper dry time and clear and you'll never see the repair.

Not pearls, but pigments. Pro shops never shoot over sanded base, there must always be at least one more coat of base applied. You might get away with it on a solid color, but then again you might not.
