Porsche Cayman 987 Paint system

Hi All!

Newbie poster here. I'm repairing a 2008 Cayman S Porsche. It had front structural damage which needs to have a tub and some other bits replaced and welded. In the frunk the panels aren't painted but are treated. I'm looking for some help to try to find what system porsche used for these cars and similar products if the original aren't available. Ideally i'd like to use the same and math the colour.

Any help is much appreciated.

Many Thanks!

Looks like some form of paint to me. I can see it peeling in places. The Caymans I've worked on were all painted. What color is the exterior? OEM's have an "underhood" color which is the same shade minus any metallic. That is what you need for that. You can find the info at any Paint Jobber. Glasurit would be the preferred choice for any Porsche. Being you are in Ireland Glasurit should be relatively easy to find.
The bigger issue IMO is I hope you are planning to get the vehicle pulled on a frame machine before replacing the tub and rear body panel. That hard of a hit there is going to be damage to the unibody that isn't readily noticeable by someone who doesn't do structural work. The one rail at the bottom looks down to me. Get it pulled and measured by someone competent before you do any cutting or removing any panels. Lot harder to straighten something that is partially apart.

Hi Chris, thanks for the response. Its Basalt Black Metallic C9Z paint code (attached). I contacted Glasurit in the UK and enquired as to what this green/grey product is but they didn't have that detail. They guessed it was 285-270.

100%, the priority is the structural repair. It's going to a frame shop in a couple of weeks to be pulled/aligned and to have the tub, front impact bolt section and that damaged rail replaced(per porsche guidelines).

It'll be their factory ED coating with light coats of the subsequent coatings used to refinish the exterior. OEs do not wish to waste coatings on parts that never normally show. Sometimes there is a groundcoat involved, it would be a very light grey on that. It's not easy to replicate. In the OE process, the overspray gets baked and it seems to melt in and get a lot smoother than conventional processes would allow. Sometimes I end up using blend solvent to melt the light coats in when trying to replicate underhood type finishes. Also I sometimes use some basecoat mixed with over-reduced clear. It takes a bit of experimenting to get a process that will reasonably match the existing finish, if that's what is desired.

Thanks for all of the replies! Explains why I haven't been able to find a clearcut answer on this. Really appreciate the detail you've provided (which I've been researching in depth this morning). I'll just need to work with the painter see what he can do.

Have a good Sunday All!
