Painting Pinstrips

cackle

Hello all,
Im thinking of painting 1/4 pinstrips on the side of my project. The base paint will be SPI white. The pinstrip paint will probably be Base Coat/ cc gold. The car is in epoxy primer now. My question is: I shoot the SPI white then tape and shoot the pinstrips...all within the recomended window before clear coat. What about residue from the tape i use for the pinstrips...Is it ok to clean with Water Based wax remover? What happens if I run out of the recommeded window between the base coat and clear coat? Thanks in advance.

I have wondered the same thing as well.
the way i plan on putting the rally stripes on my car is to paint the base color and then clear it. scuff the the panels that will have the stripe (hood, trunk lid)
then lay out my stripes, paint those, then re clear those panels

well, normally when you do a stripe or graphic of any kind you want to shoot the stripe color first, mask it away then shoot the background. there are other considerations to take into account though, mainly paint coverage because you dont want a heavy paint edge. that will look crappy. basically you would put a black stripe over a white background because the black covers so well. if all you need is a 1/4" stripe i would paint the car white as you plan then goto www.finessepinstriping.com and order the right size pinstriping tape. apply that and you can either spray it or do it with a brush. pull the tape and your done. that tape leaves super clean edges. its basically packaging tape with masking tape adhesive.

Thanks for the website referal...I had planned on using that tape....seen it at the paint store where I buy my supplies....what if anything would be needed to remove any glue residues from where the tape was attached...thanks.

To remove tape residue without messing with the basecoat use a good quality mineral spirits
