painting over decals

I am currently replacing wheel arches in a friends pickup, its an fx4 ford and I was wondering what you guys do to prep your decals to spray clear over them. I don't plan to bury them smooth but I would like to kind of get them sealed up to keep the edges from lifting down the line. I had thought maybe just scuffing them with scotchbrite would work but then again I'm not sure.
 
No do not scuff or sand in anyway. Clean with clean water or glass cleaner if necessary and shoot the clear.
 
Excellent thanks Barry, the man who always has the answer. Should I stick them straight to base or lay a coat of clear and stick them on it?
