Paint Gun Cleaner

I originally posted a question here about cleaning paint guns and what to use. Then I came across Barrys post on how to clean your paint gun. Its a long thread with lots of information. Sounds like using a urethane reducer and clean after every shoot is the way to go. If it gets dirty and needs additional cleaning, "Berrymans" carb cleaner is a good option.

I buy cleaner grade lacquer thinner in 5 gallon containers. Cost me about .09 cents an ounce where reducer cost me .43 cents an ounce.

Exactly! Lacquer thinner is very cost effective for gun cleaning. I just use the SPI reducer, couple ounces for the final rinse, wipe and spray through, piss through or however you like.

Cleaner Grade Lacquer thinner, never knew there was such a thing. So do you give a final rinse with urethane reducer to get rid of the lacquer thinner that is so damaging to spi epoxy?

Your local paint supplier will sell it. Once the gun is clean, a wee bit of reducer removes any film that may be left but there really is nothing that will cause problems.

I do want to point out, the Berrymans carb cleaner no longer works as fast as it use to, something was taken out of it a year or two ago and what it use to do in 30 minutes with dried paint now takes overnight and still not as good.

Probably has something to do with our friends at the EPA and people getting sunburn .

Scratch Berrymans carb cleaner. Thanks for the update Barry. I always clean my guns between coats and super good after painting. Thats for what little painting I have done, still a novice.
