newbie Mike's thread

One trick I recently learned was to not blow off sanding dust with compressed air, gets it all over the shop. Now I use a brush and that keeps it contained to a smaller area.
too late. im just gonna have to clean again. i think most of the filling is done now. little bit of blocking and i got a few pinholes. it is coming along.
i'd love to shoot two more coats this week.......we shall see.

question, when you guys "denib" are using a long board or just your hand?
also, i should not use the 700 on the epoxy right?
Hand pad or something small. Sometimes I would fold paper over on itself 4x and just do it that way. I wouldn't recommend that if you are new to this though. You aren't sanding you are just knocking down the highs from the trash.

700 is fine on epoxy that is at least a few days old. 700 on base is the no no. If you have to wipe down base use 710.

thanks sir. i did mess around with that one crater and little tiny area of texture, they both smoothed right out by hand with a piece of 220.
tuesday is the warmest day this week, but its gonna rain that night. idk if i should shoot or not. if i dont im gonna miss the window.

If you spray during the day and it's not raining until night it's fine. In fact I've even had very fresh epoxy (maybe an hr old) get sprinkled on (because it was a camper that was painted outside).

I've only had epoxy blush once and that was because I primed part of the same camper in the evening and when the dew set in it caused blushing. But your truck won't dew if it's inside. I didn't repeat that mistake again.

i understand denib now. you can kinda feel it, feel what your doing. makes perfect sense after i did it. i used a fine scuff pad.

one thing, in case any other newbs are reading. i have been kinda anal about temps in the shop, but so far have had no problem maintaining 75 on the panels. between the torpedo heater and the stove when not spraying. inferred thermometer is your friend.

should i shoot the filler spots only and let that flash off before an all over coat? or just shoot two coats as normal? im thinking the filler will absorb epoxy like a sponge.
