new paint safe spray "detailer"

S

sprayed99

Im not looking to enhance gloss or anything like that. I have products that do a fine job of that.

What Im looking for is something that aids in removing finger prints while I finish assembly. Water doesnt provide a very good lubricant barrier with a quality micro fiber.

Thoughts on using chemicals guys clay luber?

Any "Quick Detailer" should be fine,if you want a clay lube/detailer spray I use Meguiars D155 in the deailer line, comes in gallon size and is diluted up to 2:1 for clay lube and detailer spray also. There also is Meguiars "Quik Detailer", "Ultimate Quik Detailer" and "NXT Speed Detailer", these come in consumer size and should be available at most auto retail outlets.

With all due respect, every product you mentioned is horrible to use on new paint. All of them have sealing properties which haults the paints curing process.

Can you provide details to the "sealing properties" you refer to, my understanding is they simply clean the surface as opposed to wax/sealant which seals.
Thanks..

Both the NXT and UQD use synthetic polymers that seal the top coat. Call meguires and ask them and they will tell you the same. The norrmal QD isnt even body shop safe so that there rules it out for me.

Thank you for the link. I will have to call them to ask the chemical breakdown of it.

I'll tell you right now it has a tiny bit of silicone in it. They tell me there is more than one kind, and what they use is body shop safe. Well I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't already been using it in my shop for a year and not had a fisheye problem in the least. The only place I don't use it now is inside the booth, but I know that before I found out what was in it I did use it in there to clean little spots for color matching, never did have a problem. Either it's as safe as they say or I am damn lucky. But I have never won the lotto, so...

Can't speak to the other sprays but I have personally used Mequiars D155 on freshly painted hood/tailgate/grill on my truck I painted (cleared with U/C) within 2-3 days of painting and sanding/buffing, I used it to clean the surface of buffing residue. Also used it for 2 to 3 months till I could wax, that was 4 years ago, paint still looks good.

The Spray'n'Shine says it's "breathable," which makes me think they had fresh paint in mind. I don't know about any of the Meguiar's stuff.
