Need help picking out paint

First of all I don't know if this is in the right section.

I'm looking for a really bright white, something easy to work with for a beginner.

This is going on a cafe racer tank and seat. The frame is going to be a deep red, something like a metallic red or a candy apple red. I really like the 2013 Ford Mustang ruby red. I may have a red vinyl seat close as possible There will be chrome and polished aluminum black triple trees. One black stripe down the tank also. Any ideas? Oh, also I'm on a budget, nothing to painful for my wallet. Thanks

Hey thanks everybody for the response. Stick with the good stuff. Has anybody done any effects with the spi white? Also I would like to see the new dark red base coat. See if it matches what I'm looking for. Thanks again

the spi stuff does cover really well and man it is white. i took a little and poured it into a cup with some diamont pure white and the spi made it look grey. it was enough of a difference to make a noticeable swirl in the cup. it is a little on the soft side so if you plan to tape on it you need to let it set a long time and a coat of intercoat over it will help. i have done plenty of custom stuff with it.

Jim, how does the "whiteness" compare to the Sikkens 120 High Strength ?

I dont know. Im sure ill be able to compae it to wanda prety soon though since the rep will be by here on fri. I refuse to buy any more diamont. 450-1200 a gallon for base is uncalled for.

I'll go ahead and tell you the Wanda is probably going to be like the Diamont. Their toner white isn't that bright. I know the 120 is pretty damn white, but a little transparent. I always put down 110 for coverage then 120 on top of that.

I've had to try to match some sikkens 120 and just couldn't get it in Wanda. The Pro-Spray white came pretty close.

Well good thing is i have to do very little matching and if i did a white no factory whites are pure white anyway. I just did a 69 camaro in original dayton yellow. Customer brought me wanda. I swore i was sprayin diamont. The two are very similar except the wanda was $40 a pt and the diamont was $150.

Wow, makes it hard to make a profit on a overall if you have to spend this much to start with.. I sprayed diamont for a while when I first started painting, seemed to be a good line. It was even expensive back then.

good bye diamont, sad to see you go:sorrow: gonna give the wanda a go. should be all setup in a couple weeks.

thats good to know jeremy. i have hunted long and hard and yet i cant find anyone that has anything bad to say about it....as far as the base goes. if it remotely comes close to diamont i'll be happy with it. they are hookin me up with all the sikkens color map chips too instead of the wanda ones.

they are the same chips. literally. Stash those things away as they aren't making them anymore.

wanda also uses the older colorscala variant system from autobase plus shared with lesonal. Not to be confused with the colorscala pro decks.

Ok I order a quart of the base black and a quart of the base white and now there here. So all I have to do now is wait till it warms up. Thanks

the rep had said that the wanda color chips are now a few fan decks that are just printed in ink. they are not actual paint so they just give a basic idea of color. this is why i hit him up for the actual color map chips.

cb i have to stress with the spi white that if you are going to mask on top of it you should let it sit atleast a day. two would be better. also put a little catalyst in it. also dont hammer heavy coats on. its just a very soft base that does harden, you just need to give it time. its a non issues on an overall. just when masking on it.

Yea that is the new colormap FD (Fand Deck). Sikkens has them too...but the actuall binder of chips are sprayed (as you know) and they are the same throughout lesonal, sikkens, and wanda. BUT they aren't making them anymore, they are moving to the fan decks.

Not sure why because like you said, they are ink. Well I do know why...cost. Those 2 binders last time I was told were over $500 a piece...probably more than that. I have 2 sets.

That is interesting on the spi white. I plan to shoot my dodge matte pearl white and going to use the spi white, prospray pearl, and spi matte clear. Plan on having some airbrushing done over the white also so that is good to know to let it sit.
