My 68 Mustang Journey

Let me say first that this forum is the absolute best place on the internet.

I really haven't sprayed anything automotive since i was in high school 30 years ago, gawd am I that old???

I have finally have gotten to the point on my Mustang to spray some epoxy on the fenders. So I started practicing with the HF gun I got a miracle deal on (Free). I purchased some Omni epoxy primer and took an old deck lid and shot a few coats. Could never get it to lay right. Either to thick or to much orange peel. So I was questioning whether I could or should spray my own car.

So I ordered a quart of SPI Epoxy to give it a go, $50 no big loss if I could get it to work.

Tonight, after a bit of prep I layed two coats on my Mustangs fenders. This stuff is night and day different than Omni. I set up my gun according to the instructions on here. (as I did with the Omni) and I could tell with my first pass this was good stuff. I almost want to keep it this color now. Only a very small hint of peel and a few runs from my inexperience and tight quarters.

As the song says "I'm a believer"

If Barry is making this in his bathtub, please keep doing so cause its good stuff.

Thanks for this forum and thank you SPI!

Sorry for the grainy picture, cell phone camera and all.

Looks really good, seen it a 100 times before, by time you are done with getting everything in epoxy, base clear is old hat!

Nothing better to get the paint tuning down then the epoxy.

Barry is right of course. By the time you get ready for spraying base, it will lay down just like the epoxy. I usually will reduce the epoxy about 25% and it sure looks good. Am currently working on a 73 Mustang. I shot the inside of the hood, trunk lid and doors with while epoxy to seal it before base last weekend. The next morning I had a hard time spraying the base over it, it looked so good. Was really hard since the car was White when it was brought to me, and was originally going to be a simple repaint. Now the car is going to be red, but the epoxy looked good enough to have just cleared over it.
