Micro Fiber Cloths

I was hoping you guys could share some tips on using your micro fiber cloths when you are cutting and buffing and also detailing a car.

I think my biggest problem is I go thru so many of them and I'm washing them all the time. I've been buying them at Walmart 10 for $10.

When I cut and buff I use them for drying and use 3 different ones with the 3M compounds I use. Grant it I'm still getting better at buffing so sometimes I go back and repeat a step so I either need to know what cloth I used or get a new one. Maybe I should set up a rack to hang them on, usually I just put them on a work bench or drop them on the floor (by accident) then worry about contamination.

I know cleanliness and organization would help but I was just wondering what other do? Do you wash them with household laundry or by themselves?

Thanks, Steve

I went thru a lot of them when buffing, dropping them was one thing, but forgetting what one was used for was just plain old age stupid. It took all of 3 minutes to take a sharpie and number them 1,2,3 = cut, polish, glaze.
When I wash them I do not use fabric softener. I wash them in Tide, then wash them again in Deft which has no bs added to it, just plain old soap.
Since I started this routine the cloths perform like new instead of being like half used ones.

100% cotton mostly . use to spend a fortune on fancy rags of one kind or another. tshirts work fine for me.

I have been only using new ones for cut and buff because of the washed ones performing as you say "like half used ones." I keep the old ones (once washed) for general purpose rags. I think I'll try your method and see how it works.

At least with age it has brought wisdom to find a simple solution to a problem. That is such a great solution - Thanks for sharing!!
