Metal 2 metal filler

Hi. Im currently bodyworking my hooptie. The passenger quarter panel was previously mangled up and "repaired" prior to my ownership. There will be quite a bit of welding to fill in the holes they drilled, along with metal straightening in general. My metal working and welding skills are less than top notch and on this older high mileage car, it doesnt really matter anyway. Typically on a situation like this where im applying filler over welds and areas where Im using more filler than normal, i use fiberglass reinforced filler. A while back a respectable body guy in my area said he puts evercoat Metal 2 metal filler on weld areas. I was curious if anyone here had used it and if it would be recommended for this applocation or if I should just stick with fiber reinforced filler. Thanks.

I can't speak for Metal 2 filler as I have not used it. I will be watching this thread to see who has, and why they like it, or don't.

I however do use Upol fiberglass filler over welds. It sands very well with minimal pin holes. I follow that up with either regular body filler or glazing depending on the circumstance.

All I know is it sands like concrete. It’s just regular filler with aluminum powder tossed in afaik.

Don
By hand, yes sands like concrete. Zip with 80 on DA, quick work

I used this on my car and a previous car...saw the previous car that was painted 2yrs ago and no sign of failure.

I like the way it spreads.
From my understanding it's used to fill any pinholes like fiberglass would be. I welded up any pinholes then skimmed it over the seam, then regular filler.

Does it make a difference, probably not but it made me feel good..lol

i used to use metal-2-metal in exactly the way you are wanting to use it. i would do all my welding then apply the filler over to smooth out the welds or blend the area in. let it kick off hard then hit it with a sander and some 80 grit to smooth the whole thing out then move to regular filler over it. i have never had metal-2-metal shrink or ghost in the finish after the paint job was done. i love the stuff honestly. now usc has all metal filler which you would think is the same but i have not seen as many good reviews with that stuff. i am not a fan of fiberglass filler. it holds too many air pockets and small bubbles so when it gets hot you see it expand in the sun and can look terrible. with all that said, you should not be applying filler of any kind super thick which is what fiberglass filler was designed for.
