Mercruiser Paint over Epoxy Primer

F

FULL-THROTTLE

Has anyone painted a mercruiser outdriver over the SPI epoxy primer? I am looking for recommendations on what brand paint you used and the outcome.

Thanks,

Fran

epoxy the outdrive or lower unit then use a polyurethane single stage over it. straight black is fine. you can use spi black single stage. every paint company has a single stage line. some are better than others durability wise. awlgrip is great too if you can find it in black. just a little tricky to use

I have one that's held up well with nason black single stage over epoxy... the nnason single stage stuff adheres well and holds up well. It's also what I use to paint marine engines... and holds up well even in a wet bilge with soem brackish and even salt water. the oil pans get coated in ruberized undercoating for additional protection.

SPI Epoxy on outdrives

We've had countless people run straight black SPI epoxy on an outdrive and call it a day. Another common option is two coats of black epoxy with two coats of Universal Clear to provide gloss for those who want a shine. I bet we get 100 calls per spring/summer with people looking to refurb outdrives.
