Looking to buy my first good gun...

I've been wrenching cars for nearly 40 years and have stayed away from the paint side for the most part until now. Here lately, I have been learning all I can about automotive painting (thanks to you folks). I have bought a few cheap little guns (Kobalt, DeVilbess, HF) to practice with and get the feel for this craft and have come to a point where I think its time for me to get a couple of good guns that I can grow into. What would you folks suggest? Sata, Itwana...? Any direction would be much appreciated. Best, Don

Looks like Iwata will be the way I go. Is there a model that you suggest for a good all around gun? I have been shooting single stage mostly at this point.

depends, sata and iwata both have slow and fast guns, the rp(satas compliat)and the w400(iwatas compliant)are reall for the quick handed painter.the lph400(iwatas hvlp)version and the sata(hvlp)are similar speeds, there are some diffrences lph, finer atomization, satas hvlp,a quicker gun in my opinion.it all comes down to technique, practice and gun set up for the material being sprayed..clear use the compliant guns if doing a complete car...again just my opinion

I think you'll like the LPH400LV, it's not an airhog and atomizes excellent. It is a little slower than some but that also offers more control. That price looks decent.

If you have not decided on a gun yet. Speak with your paint supplier & they should have a few different guns that you may be able to try before purchasing one. A quality gun is usually a significant investment so if you have the chance to test drive what is available you can narrow the list down to oyur preferances.
